Eczema (also known as atopic dermatitis) and contact dermatitis are common inflammatory skin conditions that can affect people of all ages. Symptoms include dry, cracked skin, intense itching, redness, and sometimes weeping or crusting.

Triggers can include allergens, soaps, weather changes, fabrics, or stress. Treatments aim to reduce inflammation, relieve itching, and maintain skin hydration. Mild cases may respond to emollients alone, while moderate to severe cases often require corticosteroids such as Hydrocortisone or Betamethasone.

Prescribers evaluate the severity, location, and frequency of flare-ups to determine the most suitable treatment. They may recommend short-term use of steroids for inflammation, alongside long-term use of moisturisers to prevent recurrence.
